Edmonton: 124 Grand Market
I just got back from the 124 Grand Market, where I got my fill of yummy food, sunshine, and small dogs wrapped in baby slings around their owners. Ahh, summer markets. Love 'em.
I especially like the 124 Grand Market. The evening crowds aren't as overwhelming as the Saturday morning crowds at other markets; everyone's just there to get something to eat and browse leisurely. It's just the right size, too - big enough to offer lots of variety but small enough that you can stop and talk to the vendors and see the sights, rather than skimming past hundreds of tables.
After getting a shiny new hair cut at Propaganda and making a pit stop at Duchess Provisions (where I got some mini loaf baking cases, yay!), I wandered over to the market. If you haven't been yet, it's on 124th Street and 108th Avenue on Thursday evenings, and they always have a great selection of vendors, several food trucks, and lots of room to sit down and eat your purchases. Which is exactly what I did. And now, because I am so full and sleepy, I'm gonna just let the pictures do the talking.
...That being said, I ate the whole thing. It was spicy and lemongrassy and delicious.
Market bounty (those are doughnuts in the box. I'll get to those):
Cherries for dessert. They were super crunchy and sweet, just perfect.
These bad boys from Moonshine Doughnuts will have to wait till later. Mocha Cocoa, Raspberry Balsamic, Saskatoon Earl Grey, and Lemon Poppyseed. Hot damn!
You should definitely pay 124th Street a visit if you're in Edmonton. Go. Your eyes and tastebuds and tummy will thank you.
