Crack Mix

I love it when you go to a friend's house or have people over, fully intending to watch a movie together, and then you end up just talking or goofing around for 5 hours instead. That has happened to me twice in the past few weeks, and it doesn't bother me one bit that we didn't watch those movies. At both of those get togethers, there was no shortage of nibbles (I happened to make this mix on both occasions) - plenty of fuel for long conversations or epic game nights.

This party mix is soooo easy to make, and it's really addictive. I usually try to stay away from likening things to crack - a thing I clearly know nothing about - but in the "can't stop won't stop" sense of the word, this stuff is truly crackalicious. I'm sorry, but I don't know how else to say it.

This stuff seriously takes seconds to prepare, and less than 20 minutes to bake. So little effort goes in, you won't feel bad when the whole batch is demolished in a matter of hours.

Crack Mix
Slightly adapted from Christina Tosi's Snack Mix
Makes a small tin-full, about 3 cups

2 cups roughly broken mini or waffle pretzels
1/4 cup light brown sugar
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1/3 cup dry whole milk powder
6 tbsp butter, melted

1 regular bag/box of Reese's Pieces (equivalent to a couple of handfuls)
1 regular bar of dark chocolate (such as Hershey's or Lindt), smashed up into small pieces

Preheat your oven to 275°F/135°C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, mix the butter, sugars, and milk powder together and then stir in the pretzels. Spread this mixture evenly on the baking sheet and bake for 18 or 19 minutes, until golden brown. Let the pretzels cool completely, then break them up into chunks and toss them in a serving bowl with the chocolate and Reese's Pieces. Store in an airtight container (though you'll probably eat it before "storage" becomes an issue).
