Vietnamese Subs (Bánh Mì)

I only had my first Vietnamese sub last fall - before that, I was woefully ignorant of the magic that is bánh mì. On one of our first few dates, my bf took me to V Sandwiches downtown, where I wolfed down a giant lemongrass tofu sub. I actually didn't believe it would fit in my stomach, it was that huge... huge, but so goooood. Afterwards we went to the Yellowhead Brewery for a comedy night fundraiser, and I got to meet a bunch of his friends for the first time. It was a really lovely night (despite it being extremely $£%*ing cold outside).

I recently also tried bánh mì from the Sailin' On food truck at the 124th Street Market - again, ridiculously huge, ridiculously good. How did I not know about this stuff sooner?

Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies

I’m back! Sorry for the long hiatus – I’m blaming it on spotty internet service, a long and much-needed vacation, starting a new job, and generally enjoying summer too much. The last month or so has been a whirlwind of catching up with friends and family, going camping in Kananaskis, and spending a whole lazy week in the sun at Lake Windermere. I made a big batch of these to bring on our camping trip in Kananaskis. There were almost thirty people there – a whole side of my boyfriend’s extended family – so I wanted to bring a crowd pleaser. And who doesn’t like peanut butter, amiright? I got the recipe from Sweet Pea’s Kitchen (where the cookies and photos are markedly prettier, haha) and have made it a few times; the cookies always receive great feedback – mostly “Mmm”s and “Omgahhh”s and “Mrrumnumnum”s.

Quay Market Breakfast Croissant

... Aaaaand I'm back. Apologies for the lack of posts this summer. I admit I got caught up in the fun and neglected this blog - among other things - for a couple months. But it's September now, summer is nearly gone, and I've already started reminiscing about July and August. What a sweet, sweet summer it's been.
